Growth Isn’t Linear

Just popping in to remind you that growth isn’t linear. You might feel like you’re making progress and moving towards healing, then have something trigger you and reopen the wound. It makes you feel like you’re taking steps backwards. But feelings aren’t always facts. It’s important to let them matter, but don’t let them become the only voice you listen to. It’s crucial to have a strategy in place for these moments— a way for you to zoom out of the situation and get some perspective.

Like having a friend you turn to when you feel like you might spiral— to remind you that it’s okay if it still hurts, but look how far you’ve come. You’re not where you used to be. Or if you know you can become self destructive when you’re left alone with those feelings, be bold and reach out for help. Let someone know you need to get out of your head and have a change of scenery. It’s scary at first to admit you need help, but all it takes is one person to do it. Imagine if your whole circle of people were in the habit of regularly checking in on each other’s mental health!

For me, writing has become a really valuable practice. It’s a way I can look back and take inventory of the place I use to be in and the ground I’ve covered since then. Because although I’m so much better at it than I use to be, I still have moments where I lose sight of the progress I’ve made and I feel stuck in my feelings.

I wanted to share, because I know that when I need a reminder someone else usually does too. We’re all made the same. You are not alone! And if nobody’s told you yet today, I love you!!
