The Process of Becoming

I like who I’m becoming. On the outside you might not see much of a change, but I’m not the same person I was a year ago. I’m not as focused on what other people think of me and who sees me in the room. I’m not as hard on myself when I don’t measure up to the person I want to be. I’ve been learning that my spiritual maturity is up to me and how long it takes me to close the distance in between going to Jesus.

I’m more desperate to invite the Holy Spirit into every part of my day, he’s making me bolder and more willing to share my story. I don’t fight as hard to prove my point or be right. I’m more disciplined, I’m more hungry for God’s Word and his law has become my delight. I have a greater desire to know God, really know him.

I’m so grateful that God loves me enough he wants to make me better. He’s seen things in me that I could have never seen in myself. I’m not sharing this because I’m impressive and deserve praise— none of this growth was on my own— but because I want you to know that God is so kind. His heart for his children is for us to be sanctified, to be set apart and holy— it’s the process of becoming more like Jesus. He sees the beauty and character and value in you, and he wants you to grow into who he has always known you could become. He loves you enough he wants to make you better. You’re never too far gone for him.

So don’t give up on yourself yet. The Holy Spirit can transform you into the person you’ve always dreamed of becoming!! He can fill you with a joy you never thought was possible for someone with your history. He can take the darkness that you walked through and turn you into a radiant light for your children. He can take years of shame and impurity and develop in you new thought patterns and desires. It’s just like God to use the messiest, most broken people and turn us into holy and new creations, all for his glory.

“If imperfect parents know how to lovingly take care of their children and give them what they need, how much more will the perfect heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit’s fullness when his children ask him.” Luke‬ ‭11‬:‭13‬
