No Season Is Wasted

I don’t know what season you’re in right now. Maybe life feels slow, lonely, or different than you had hoped; maybe dreams are coming true, maybe it’s sweet, maybe it’s really messy. It’s so hard to not be where you want to be or planned you would be. But I know that God doesn’t waste a season. And something powerful happens when you and I resolve that no matter what our circumstances are, we’re not going to waste this moment that God has placed us in.

It’s easy for me to label myself in a particular “season,” so that I can feel like I’m in control, even though I’m not. It’s even easier to use that as an excuse to stay stuck where I am. But that’s actually confining God to my tiny view of the picture, when he can see how all of it unfolds. It’s in my limited vision and hope that he shows up, and challenges everything I think I’m in control of.

I’m learning life isn’t just one thing. It’s a million things, all at once, that God wants to use to make us more like Jesus. You can be in a time of heartbreak AND experience the most peace you ever have. You can be in a season of bearing a lot of fruit from the seeds you’ve sowed AND be experiencing deep loneliness. You can be going through great loss AND know the joy of the Lord.

I want to do the hard work of surrender— of acknowledging the season that I’m in— but then inviting God into it, with the expectation that he’s going to meet me. Believing that there will be growth, even if it is a painful process. And trusting that even if I’m not sure what he’s doing in my life, he’s working out something necessary in me that he’s going to use for his Kingdom.

God never wastes a season. But what are you doing with the one you’re in?

Imagine if today you started being disciplined in a few really little things, what kind of man would you be 6 months from now? What if you used this season that feels like waiting and preparation and developed habits to make you a healthier individual, in both body and spirit? What kind of woman would you become in a year, in 5 years?

Wherever you find yourself today, I hope you make the most of it and know that God’s moving in your life. Sometimes it just takes us moving toward him to see it.
